Aula Regia

Aula Regia or Palas hall is the name of the royal halls in palts. In the Middle Ages the term was used as synonymous with the palaces itself.

An existing former Visigothic Aula Regia is the church-initiated Santa María del Naranco in Oviedo, built in 850 as the Aula Regia Ramiros I. An Aula Regia is also the Aachen King Palace in Aachen. Here the coronation meal took place after the coronation of a king or emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The Königshalle of the Ingelheimer Kaiserpfalz was digitally reconstructed. Architectural example for all was the Basilica of Constantine in Trier.

An Aula Regia was also named the reception hall in the Domus Flavia, the palace of Domitian on the Palatine in Rome.
