Zorrilla Theater

The Teatro Zorrilla, later Zorrilla Theater, also known as Dulaang Zorrilla was a prominent theater in the Philippine capital Manila. The theater that hosted 900 people was officially opened on 17 August 1893. It was located on the corner of Calle Iris (the current Claro M. Recto Avenue) and Calle San Pedro (Evangelista Street) and was named after José Zorrilla, a 19th-century Spanish poet playwright. In the theater Spanish and Tagalog performances were shown. For example, many of the famous Filipino zarzuela representations from the beginning of the 20th century can be seen here. Zorilla Theater was demolished in the second half of the 1930s.
