Batodonoides is an extinct bullet mouse and this animal is considered to be the smallest mammal ever. Batodonoides weighed only 1.3 grams and lived in North America during the Early Eocene.
In October 1998, scientists from the University of Michigan announced that they had discovered the remains, consisting of a lower jaw and a few teeth, in a 53-million-year old rocky farm in Wyoming, of a small animal. The new animal was closely related to the rhinoceros and was called Batodonoides vanhouteni. Based on the size of the teeth, the scientists then determined the weight of Batodonoides. Little known mammal in history
With 1.3 grams, the Batodonoides is still below that of the bumblebee bite (2.0 grams) and of the eyelashes (2.5 grams) and is thus the smallest known mammal ever lived.
