Eric Albada Jelgersma

Eric Theodorus Arnoldus Caspar Albada Jelgersma (Ginneken and Bavel, March 14, 1939) is a Dutch entrepreneur.

Albada Jelgersma has grown in the supermarket world. He built a group of distribution centers and supermarkets.

AJ, as he was mentioned, lived in Laren NH. In 1987 an attempt was made to kidnap him, but the front door was opened by his 10-year-old daughter Valerie and then she was taken. She was later released without paying loose.

In 1980 he acquired the original Belgian wholesaler Unigro, and became a major shareholder at HCS Technology. In 1996, the merger was announced with the De Boer supermarket chain and in 1998 the large Vendex Food Group (Edah and the Basic Market) was added. The company then went on as Laurus. Albada Jelgersma remained a major shareholder with an interest of more than 34%, but in fact, since 1996, no longer has any administrative responsibility. Through the attempt of the new management to change all stores and unify to "Konmar", the tomb was opened for Laurus; It did not work well. To end Laurus, ultimately, too much extra money was needed. A solution was sought: a partner was found in Casino, a French retailer, which bought an interest of 38.6% of the shares for 200 million euros. Through this transaction, and the issue of several new shares within the big group, with Casino in July 2002, the importance of Eric Albada Jelgersma diluted. Albada Jelgersma conducted a comprehensive legal battle to allow the Enterprise Chamber to investigate Laurus's mismanagement, but the intervention of the Enterprise Chamber has not been able to reverse the company's loss.

Meanwhile, Albada Jelgersma had focused his attention on some wineries. He bought in 1995 Château Giscours (3ème cru) and in 1997 Château du Tertre (5ème cru), both located in the French Margaux. Also in Tuscany, in Italy he has a wine-growing region, Caiarossa, which he bought in 2004 from Belgian old music producer Jan Theys. In 2012, he extended the vineyards of Chateau Giscours to 101 ha.

Albada Jelgersma moved to Belgium in 1996. Today he lives in Switzerland.

On Sunday, January 30, 2005, Albada Jelgersma fell on his sailing yacht. A poorly-secured deck was loosened, causing Albada Jelgersma to break his neck. Since then he has been almost paralyzed.
