Episcleritis is a superficial inflammation of the tissue under the conjunctiva of the eye. Episcleritis can be seen in a mostly local red-to-purple spot on the eye, sometimes with a slightly yellow nodule. The condition is often mildly painful. There are no microorganisms present. The disease tends to recidivate and over time, a somewhat bluish enlightenment occurs. Generally, it is not a symptom of another disease. Treatment is usually not necessary, but if desired, corticosteroid drops are the first choice. Literatuurverwijzingen
