Main Voice: Karate.
The term bunkai (分解 "Han characters") is used in Japanese martial arts to indicate the textual and obvious explanation of a symbolic gesture contained in a formal exercise (kata). The word is formed by two kanji meaning "portion" and "unlink" and united, respectively, to indicate the act of bringing something complex to its essential parts.
Kata Bunkai literally means "disassembled kata", that is, applied. That is, a kata, only that while normal kata are played with an imaginary opponent (or more), kata bunkai is played with an opponent (or more) true, so you need a partner. The bunkai are normally performed in the dojo or exams for grade passes, specifically for examinations regarding the second or higher passages, with a partner or group of partners demonstrating the meaning of techniques performed in a kata or practice a default attack that needs to be answered with a given kata. In this way, the student understands the various moves of the kata and improves his technique by learning to evaluate the times, adjust the distances and adapt the technique to the size of the opponent.
