Lilla Cabot Perry

Selfport, 1892

Lilla Cabot Perry (Boston, January 13, 1848 - Hancock, February 28, 1933) was an American impressionist painter.

She painted portraits and landscapes in the same free form as her mentor Claude Monet. Perry was an early supporter of the French Impressionist style and contributed to its acceptance in the United States. Her early work was formed by her study at Cowles School of Art in Boston and travels through Europe and Japan. She was also strongly influenced by Ralph Waldo Emerson's philosophies and her friendship with Camille Pissarro.

Although she started her education at the age of sixty-six, collaboration with artists of the Impressionist, Realistic, Symbolistic and Social-Realistic Movement greatly influenced the style of her work.
