Bedřich Bloudek

He started his military career in the Austrian imperial army. During the Revolution of 1848 Bedřich Bloudek adhered to the ideas of panslavism. In the summer of 1848 he participated in the Slavic Congress of Prague and took part in the barricades of the Prayer uprising. He fought during the 1848 Slovakian uprising when he and František Alexandr Zach on 16 September led an army of 600 volunteers, mostly students, from Moravia to Western Slovakia. They reached Myjava, where on 18 September the independence of Slovakia from the Kingdom of Hungary was declared. They came to Senica and Stará Turá. Finally they were forced to surrender with their troops after only ten days of fighting. Bloudek was also a member of the Slovak National Council.
