British Airways flight 38

British Airways flight 38 (Speedbird 38) was a flight from Beijing Capital International Airport, which crashed just before the runway at its destination, London Heathrow Airport, on 17 January 2008 after a flight of 8100 kilometers . There were no fatalities, but 47 people sustained injuries. The 150-ton plane was the first Boeing 777 that was written off in the 12-year history of the 777.

The cause was ice formation in the fuel-oil heat exchangers of both engines. This reduced the fuel supply to the engines when extra thrust was required during the landing at Heathrow. Boeing indicated that the identified problem was specific to the fuel / oil heat exchangers of the Rolls-Royce engines and Rolls-Royce subsequently developed a change to its FOHE. Rolls Royce was instructed to equip all aircraft involved with this change before 1 January 2011. Boeing 777 powered by GE or Pratt & amp; Whitney was not affected by the problem. In the media
