Philippe De Stoop (Bruges, June 6, 1797 - June 3, 1874) was a Belgian pharmacist and amateur historian Lifecycle

The Stoop was the son of innkeeper Jean-Baptiste De Stoop and Johanna Illegheer. From 1 May 1818 he was a pharmacist in the Eekhoutstraat and he also became a teacher at the 'Ecole de Médecine' in Bruges. He married in 1821 with the 25-year-old Maria Vanhende (1772-1824), widow of pharmacist Basiel Rijspoort. In 1826 he married Ghent Marie Meyer (1783), who was 13 years older than he. The witnesses were Dr. Isaac De Meyer (was the bride perhaps a relative?), Dr. Johan Bossuyt, interest rate spokesman Joseph Versavel and the singer and composer Johannes De Stoop, brother of the groom.

In his home, he received the small wreath meeting every Friday from 1835 to exchange local history, ancient science and literature and to share findings. He belonged to the founding members of the Society for History in Bruges. From the foundation he was treasurer and stayed for a few months before his death. In terms of publications, he limited himself to five articles on a historical topic.

In 1852, the Stoop became director of the St. Dominic's insane church. He lived next to the institute in the Jacobinessenstraat, until his death. Publications
