Simon Schermer

Simon Schermer (Wormerveer, July 1747 - 7 November 1810) was a Dutch politician.

Schermer was born as the eldest of the three children of Catholic merchant Jan Schermer and Catharina van Scherpenhof, and was baptized in Wormer on July 29, 1747. In his birthplace he was a merchant. On October 23, 1768, he married at Wormer with Antje Kistemaker, with whom he received five children.

On January 27, 1796, Schermer was elected deputizing for the Purmerend district in the First National Assembly of the Batavian Republic. In August 1797 he was re-elected and on January 22, 1798 he took part in the coup of the United States. He then became the victim of the purge that took place after a coup by more conservative unions on June 12th of that year.

After the elections of July 31, 1799, Schermer reigned, and remained a member of the Representative Body until the establishment of the state wreck on October 16, 1801, when the Batavian Republic was succeeded by the Bataafs Commonwealth. >

Nine years later, Schermer died at Wormerveer at the age of 63.
