Three-dimensional

The concept of three-dimensional or 3D indicates that something has three geometric dimensions: depth, width and height. Examples of three-dimensional things are a sphere, a pyramid or a spatial object like a shoe box. 3D

The shortened 3D designation is usually used to indicate that something can be spatially observed: 3D, 3D, or 3D computer graphics.

What is meant by this is not always clear. In computer games, the term 3D is often used, which means that it is intended to display perspective images. However, the term 3D is also used for the technique also known as stereoscopy, which offers two different images, one for the left eye and one for the right eye.

Stereo images are not really spatial, but some tricks (for example, glasses with a red and a blue glass) make the impression that the image is three-dimensional. The designation 3D refers to unexpected visual images. One expects a two-dimensional image, but it sees depth in the image presented and experiences it as three-dimensional.

In addition, the term 3D is used for a new television called WOWvx. Also see
