Yoreh De'ah

Yoreh De'ah is a collection of Jewish laws (Halakhah) written in 1300 by Rabbi Jacob ben Asher and titled Arba'ah Turim. This section deals with all aspects of Jewish law with the exception of Jewish calendar or finance, civil liability, marriage, divorce, and sexual conduct. It is therefore a very complex set of rules. Rabbi Yosef Karo shaped the structure of his Shulkhan Arukh (שולחן ערוך) - a collection of Jewish law practices - according to Arba'ah Turim, calling the equivalent section with the same title, Yoreh De'ah. Many other successive commentators have also used this literary structure. Thus, Yoreh De'ah, in common use, may refer to a halakhah area, not specifically or exclusively to Rabbi Jacob ben Asher.
