Jan Tromp (painter)


Jan Tromp (Leeuwarden, March 2, 1945) is a Frisian painter from Schalsum.

As a pupil of Matthijs Röling he belongs to the Northern Realists, which also include regional fellows Pieter Pander and Douwe Elias.

Jan Tromp followed a training for teacher physical education. He initially worked mainly at the Municipal School Community in Leeuwarden. He got an interest in art when he was engaged in photography. That resulted in the 1980s winning various awards. In 1982 he won two first prizes in the international competition organized by the natural magazine Grasduinen. He also won prizes in international photo competitions of Olympus and Nikon.

In the nineties he chose for painting. In the meanwhile he has a dozen exhibitions on his name. The subjects are diverse, but he is mostly known for making portraits of man and animal, usually on assignment. The most striking work was portraiture in 2009 of the late Commissioner of the Queen of Drenthe Relus ter Beek on behalf of the Deputies. Externe link
