Otto Scheltus of Leusden

Otto Scheltus, Mr. van Leusden (christened Amersfoort, March 27, 1764 - Amersfoort, April 15, 1837) was a Dutch mayor. Career

Scheltus (or: Scheltus van Leusden) came from a driver family; his father Isaac was a scholar in Leusden and mayor in Amersfoort and his grandfather Otto was a bailiff and mayor in Schoonhoven. Son Carel van Diepenheim Scheltus would later become Mayor of Leusden. The addition of Leusden to the surname arises from the possession of the craftsmanship Leusden. Scheltus married in 1791 in Leusden with Sophia Geertruida of Coeverden and later with Catharina van Velp.

Scheltus was in Leusden commissioner for the collection of the hundredth prize (1794) and schout (1795). In 1804 he became a scout and from 1812 he was one of the three mayors of Amersfoort. When the triumph in 1823 was abolished, he remained the only mayor. He was also high-level council and dike digger of Hoogheemraadschap van Bunschoter Veen- en Veldendijk. He passed away at the age of 73. In 1914 a street was named in Amersfoort.
