Cape Verde or the Cape Verde Peninsula is a cape in Senegal. On the peninsula there is the Senegalese capital Dakar and the peninsula is close to the Dakar region. The cape is the westernmost point of the African continent.

Cape Verde is a rocky protrusion from the sandy mainland of Senegal. Once upon a time it was a volcanic island, but it was connected to the coast by the deposition of sand through the ocean flow. The original island has a triangular shape with sides of approximately 15 km. The twin volcano, Les Deux Mamelles, dominates the landscape along the northwest coast. The peninsula with its bay on the south side forms a natural harbor. The original inhabitants of the peninsula, Lebu, were fishermen and farmers.

The Portuguese explorer Dinis Dias discovered this cape in 1445 and called him Cabo Verde, Green Cape, because of the lush vegetation. The natural harbor has since played an important role in European trade with Africa and India.

Cape Verde should not be confused with Cape Verde (originally called Ilhas de Cabo Verde or the Cape Verde Islands, officially named the country after its independence Cabo Verde) that is about 560 kilometers west of the Atlantic Ocean. 14 ° 44 '41 "NB, 17 ° 31' 13" WL
