Henri Murger

Henri Murger, 1854

Henri Murger (Paris, March 27, 1822 - 28 January 1861) was a French writer and poet.

His main work is "Scènes de la Vie de Bohème", based on his own experiences as a street arm writer in a loft in Paris, with a number of friends who spotted "the waterdrinkers" (never money for wine) . The book appeared as feuilleton and brought him fame and well-being, after which he quickly reversed life as a bohemian.

In addition to books, he also wrote poems, including "La Chanson de Musette", of which Théophile Gautier noted that it was "a tear that became a pearl of poetry." "Scènes de la vie de bohème" became the basis for the Puccini opera "La Bohème".
