Stone Bridge (Saragozza)

Puente de Piedra is a bridge over the Ebro River, located in Zaragoza, also called "Lions Bridge" because of the four lions (city symbol) that are placed on the pillars at the sides of the bridge.

Since the 12th century, citizens of Zaragoza tried to build a bridge connecting the two banks of the Ebro. Between 1401 and 1440, a stone bridge was built under the direction of Gil de Menestral, which resisted until the flood of 1643 that destroyed two central camps, as can be seen in the Vista de Zaragoza en 1647 by Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo of 1647.

The bridge was rebuilt in 1659 by architect Felipe de Busiñac who restored the two destroyed towers and expanded the bridge pylons. Other designers wikitesto
