John Russell (prohibitonist)


John Russell was an American Methodist Pastor and Conservative. He was from Michigan.

Russell was in the nineteenth century leading figure within the anti-alcohol lobby in the United States. He was one of the initiators for the creation of the Prohibition Party, which was established in Chicago on September 1, 1869. During the founding congress, he was elected the first president of the National Executive Committee of the Prohibition Party, which he remained until 1872.

At the presidential election of 1872 he was the running mate of presidential candidate James Black (Prb). Also see Externe link
