Night lamp (lamp)

A night lamp

A night lamp is a lamp designed to keep burning at night. These lamps are usually used indoors, and stay on all night; even when you go to bed and the lamp need not be in order to be able to see.

Night lamps are used for different purposes. For example, many young children often have a night lamp on their bedroom when they are afraid of darkness. Also, one can use a night lamp as a sense of security, or to make sure that you enter a room immediately at night, without having to first look for a lamp switch.

Night lamps exist in many types. Most night lights were based on the bulb and had a power of 5 watts or less. Nowadays nightlights are based on, for example, electroluminescence, neon lights and LEDs and have a power of less than 1 watts. Some models have an internal battery so that the lamp stays on with a power failure. Automatic night lighting has a light sensor so the lamp automatically turns on when it's dark or a PIR sensor that lights up when someone enters a room.

Night lights give less bright light than regular lamps. The light is usually enough to see the contents of a room, but not so brutal that it is annoying when falling asleep or blinded by entering the room with a night lamp from a dark room.
