Softly, Softly

Softly, Softly was a British police series, produced by the BBC from January 1966 to December 1976 with a total of 269 episodes. The series was based on the work of the regional department of crime with detectives in civilian clothes in Wyvern's fictional region - probably the area around Bristol and Chepstow in England.

The series (named Softly, softly, catchee monkey) is for Detective Chief Inspector Charles Barlow and Detective Inspector John Watt (played by Stratford Johns and Frank Windsor) from the popular police- Series Z-Cars, a new challenge to fight crime. Robert Keegan also plays a role as Blackitt, the Sergeant of Z-Cars, who is retired and freelance for the crime department.

In 1969, the BBC series changed again by the changeover to color television. Barlow, Watt and Hawkins were promoted and sent to southeastern England to the (again) fictional Thamesford where they were charged with special operations. The series was changed to Taskforce, but the BBC was reluctant to change a well-known name, so it became Softly, Softly: Taskforce.

Johns left the Taskforce series in 1972 (Barlow got his own spin-off Barlow at Large), but Watt continued until 1976. cast Externe link
