The round lock Map (18th century)

The round lock of Agde (French: L'Écluse Ronde d'Agde) is a lock in the south French city of Agde. The lock connects the Canal du Midi with the Hérault.

The lock is unique due to its round shape, which makes it possible for a ship to turn, and because of the three lock doors each with a different water level. The lock was built in 1676 from volcanic stone and was originally 29.20m in diameter and 5.20m deep.

The outputs of the lock are:

The lock is no longer completely round shape. After adjustments, carried out in 1978, the lock was made suitable for vessels of 38.50 m long. Also see
