Asgenerator

Asgenerator aboard a container ship.

An axle generator is a generator driven by a ship's propeller shaft. The propeller shaft extends from the main engine to the propeller propelled propeller. The shaft generator is used to provide the ship with electrical power during the cruise because the larger main engines have a lower power consumption than the auxiliary motors, consume less fuel and save on the maintenance costs of the auxiliary motors. During the maneuvering and port operation, the auxiliary motors that supply with their generators than the required electrical power are supplied. Drive

The drive of the shaft generators can take place in different ways. If the main engine is a medium-engine with adjustable screw powered by a gear reduction, the shaft generator can be powered by a power take-off, a reduction of gear reduction. Due to the adjustable screw, the engine speed and hence the shaft generator can remain constant at varying engine load and ship speed. This is important because the electrical frequency must remain constant.

In the case of slow-moving two-stroke engines, a fixed screw is often used, which means that the engine speed is not constant. Frequency is often kept constant using frequency converters. Influence

The additional required power has an impact on the propulsion engine characteristics. For this reason, the turbo groups are adjusted so that the optimum efficiency shifts to a lower power area and the filling pressure in the lower power area is increased. Literature
