CITY Radio Amsterdam

CITY Radio Amsterdam (1974 - 1989, CITY stands for the Amsterdam Amsterdam Wireless Broadcast), also known as Radio CITY, was a public radio station in Amsterdam. In 1989 the station went up in RTV Noord-Holland.

CITY Radio Amsterdam began her work in an extremely agile period. The riots around the subway construction were followed by urban renewal, the struggle against the vacancy of homes and the bloom of the cracking movement. CITY sought to reduce the distance between medium and citizen in this energetic environment.

The station was known (and notorious) because of the thin boundary between her journalism and the action subjects. The transmitter made an exuberant report of evacuations of squatters and other riots. Star publishers "at the front" were Stan van Houcke and Thijs Lieffering. On April 30, 1980, CITY, together with VARA, organized a theme broadcast about Queen Beatrix's inauguration. Presentator Hanneke Groenteman started this broadcast as follows: "It's a great day to crack but not to crown." Leo Jacobs (1975)

Many well-known programmakers had a fixed heading at Radio CITY. Peter van Ingen presented his Laughter line, Hans van den Boom had an opera program, Heikelien Verrijn Stuart participated in the weekly Journalists Forum, and Margreet Dolman (Paul Haenen) made her awaiting weekly. Jan Mom and Twan Huys started their career at STAD Radio. Jan Carmiggelt, Henk Kool, Gerdy Nijman, Margreet Vermeulen, Simon van den Ben and many others began their career at Radio City. Chief editor was Leo Jacobs. Most of the news readers have heard / seen in the country's broadcasters in this decade. CITY was famous for its professional character, a giant listener and the many world stars who came for a chat picture. The station was also one of the few regional radio stations that featured in the airplay list and composition of national hit parades, such as the Top100 and Top40.
