Silver paper

Silver paper is the common name for a packaging material consisting of a thin metal foil, often applied to a paper carrier.

For this purpose, stanchion was used, a very thin (sometimes up to 0.02 mm) rolled tin. The name is thus a to the silver-like color, not to the material. Nowadays, this is almost completely replaced by the considerably cheaper aluminum foil. The material was used in the past to pack chocolate and candy.

In the first half of the 20th century, collection of silver paper occurred on some scale. Children took part in the charity, especially the support of missionaries. The tin in the stanchion could be reused. After 1950, this use has gradually disappeared.
