Willem Drost

Willem Drost (christened Amsterdam, April 19, 1633 - buryed Venice, February 25, 1659) was a Dutch painter and graphic designer belonging to the Dutch School.

Drost became a pupil at Rembrandt van Rijn around 1650. Here he stayed at least until 1654, witnessing a painting with the subject of Bathsheba with King David's letter inspired by the painting with the same subject that Rembrandt made that year.

In the middle of the 50's he went to Rome, where he collaborated with Jan Vermeer of Utrecht and later met the German painter Johann Carl Loth. He followed Roth to Venice, where they made a series of performances of the evangelists before he died there in 1659 at the age of 25. Media files
