Willem Mouton

Willem Anne Mouton (The Hague, September 8, 1856 - December 4, 1946) was a Dutch naval officer and mechanical engineer.

Mouton grew up in a Hague architectural family. After his middle school, he joined the Royal Navy and was promoted to adel brush after his education. Until 1904 he regularly made promotion and closed off his active career as a captain-to-sea. After his early retirement in 1909 he still reached the titular rank of vice admiral. In the course of his career, he developed an interest in mechanical engineering, especially in the field of vessel artillery. Soon after his retirement, he also acted as a teacher, later as a professor. Until 1940, he also advised companies at home and abroad.

His skill as a drafter and his knowledge of the Navy made him a suitable candidate in 1907 to design a series of stamps in honor of Michiel de Ruyter's 300th Birthday.
