Charles de Gavre

He was the son of Louis de Gavre and de Jeanne de Rubempré, Count of Beaurieu and Baron of Frésin. He married Marguerite de La Marck, and in the second wedding with Honorine de l'Esclamerie.

Infantry Colonel at the service of the General States of the Republic of the Seven Provinces of the United States, he was appointed Superintendent of General Government in 1576 and a member of the State Council in 1577.

In 1581 he betrayed the Dutch cause by handing the city of Breda to the Spaniards. Under the rule of Alberto d'Austria and Isabella Clara Eugenia of Habsburg was governor of Ath (now in Belgium). Notemodify wikitesto
