Palyul

Palyul is one of the six mother monasteries of the nyingma tradition in Tibetan Buddhism. The other five are Dorje Drag, Dzogchen, Kathog, Mindroling and Shechen. Besides the original palace of Palyul, there were several strongholds outside Tibet, especially in India.

The monastery was founded in 1665 by Kunzang Sherab and is the seat of the Migyur Dorje, an important doctrine of Tibet religion, both Tibetan Buddhism and prayer.

From 2000 - 2009 the (11th) throne holder was Penor Rinpoche. Penor Rinpoche visited Palyul for the first time since his flight from Tibet after the invasion of Tibet (1950-51). In doing so he donated money for the restoration of the monastery. Also see Add coordinates to this article
