A tooth of Siamodon nimngami

Siamodon nimngami is a plant-eating ornithic dinosaur belonging to the Euornithopoda group, who lived in the area of contemporary Thailand during the early Chalk.

The species was named and described in 2011 by Eric Buffetaut and Varavudh Suteethorn. The gender name combines a to Siam with a Classical Greek ὀδών, odoon, "tooth", a to the more famous Iguanodon. The name designation is Witaya Nimngam, which has made fossils available for scientific research.

The Holotype, PRC-4, was found at Ban Saphan Hin in the Changwat Nakhon Ratchasima in a layer of the Khok Kruat formation dating from the Aptien. It consists of a twenty-three centimeter long left upper leg bone. In addition, two fossils are assigned to the species: PRC-5, a three-centimeter loose tooth, and PRC-6, a fifteen centimeter-long brace, both from the same site. The fossils were found during excavations between 2007 and 2010.

The upper jaw bone has a height of ten centimeters. It has at least fifteen dental positions. The interface with the cheekbone forms an indented connection. The teeth have a clear vertical headline on the inside; The tooth crown is located behind the level of this ledge. In addition, there is sometimes a single weak secondary ridge.

Siamodon has been basically placed in the Hadrosauroidea by the descriptors and would have split into Probactrosaurus close to the family tree. The finding would again be a clue that such hadrosauroids developed in Asia. Literature
