The figure of the beotarca is found in the 424 BC constitution, created after the Battle of Delio (424 BC) had liberated the cities of Beozia from Athenian hegemony: the council consisted of eleven beotars, one for each district, democratically elected among the members of the land aristocracy. The length of the charge was annual.
