Jan van Doerne (16th century)

Jan van Doerne (before 1508 - 1606) was a Dutch driver of the genre Van Doerne.

Jan van Doerne was born as a son of Everard van Doerne, a nobleman and resident of the Groot Kasteel in Deurne and Margaretha van Vladeracken. He followed his brother Hendrick van Doerne in 1545 as Lord of Deurne and in 1547 his brother Everard as Lord of Bakel. He fulfilled both positions until the beginning of the 17th century, when he died as an elderly man. He lived at the Great Castle at the time.

Van Doerne is presumably responsible for the construction of a square tower on the north side of the Groot Kasteel. The remaining walls of this tower currently accommodate the toilet facilities of the Walhalla younger sensory.

Jan van Doerne was married to Josina van Erp. He survived his only daughter Margaretha, and therefore his grandson Wolfaart Evert van Wittenhorst followed him in 1606 as Lord of Deurne. With this, the glory disappeared for the second time, and finally, by the Van Doerne family.
