The Hedikhuizense Meuse is a very sharp meander of the Meuse, which was dug into 1474-1475 to facilitate shipping. The meander is located between Hedikhuizen and Haarsteeg. The area north of this meander, and thus located now south of the Meuse, continued to belong to Gelderland until Ghent.
The Hedikhuizense Meuse has since gradually landed. Today it is a long and narrow water and beyond a ditch. It also connects to a system of drainage locks that include the Luisbroek Wetering.
The former river meander is surrounded by the High Maasdijk near Hedikhuizen and the Vergereind Road. Until the beginning of the 16th century, Castle Hedikhuizen stood on the Hedikhuizense Maas, at the height of the Komwiel in Haarsteeg.
From the 1826 to 1911 the Vergereind stood a polder mill that brought the water of the Luisbroek wetering into the Hedikhuizense Meuse. This was a round stone mill of the type of ground sailor. 51° 43′ NB, 5° 12′ OL
