Ye Xiaogang
Ye Xiaogang, Chinese: 叶小纲; Pinyin: Ye Xiaogang (China, September 23, 1955) is a Chinese composer of classical music and son of composer Ye Chunzhi. Ye Xiaogang studied in Beijing at the Central Conservatory of Music in the period 1978-1983. In 1987 he started training at Eastmen Music School. Alexander Goehr was one of his teachers.
In 2008, his career reached a peak. Ye Xiaogang was the official representative of Chinese music at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In that capacity he participated in the Olympic torch trip on August 7, 2008. Xiaogang composed a piano concert for the opening ceremony of these Games. The official title of this work was announced at the opening ceremony: Starry Sky. The eight-minute piano concert is written for piano with orchestra. In addition, the electronic parts that are composed by Zou Hang, a student of Xiaogang, contain. Starry Sky represents modern China. During the ceremony, the piece was performed by the pianist Lang Lang, accompanied by the Chinese Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Yu Long.
