Zillertal Alps seen from the Hintertuxer Glacier
The Zillertal Alps are a strong glacier mountain range belonging to the Central Alps in Tyrol. The mountain range is bordered in the west by the Brenner Pass, in the northwest through the Tux Alps, in the east through the High Tauern, in the south through the Ahrntal, and is separated in the north by Gerlostal, the Gerlospas and the Salzachtal from the Kitzbühel Alps. There are no rideable mountain passes running across the Zillertal Alps. Also in the connecting Hohe Tauern there is only one pass.
The Zillertal Alps consist largely of granite sparkling. The Zillertal Alps are protected as a nature park. The highest mountain peak is the Hochfeiler (3510 meters) on the Austrian-Italian border. Climbing from the south side of this top does not affect glaciers and is usually snow-free during summer. Mountain peaks
