Commemorative medal to the Hundredth Birthday of King Frederick IX

The Commemorative Medal to the Hundredth Birthday of King Frederick IX, ("Mindemedailles i Anledning af Hundredeårsdagen for Kong Frederik IX"), was instituted on March 8, 1999 by Margaret II of Denmark. She introduced the commemorative medal to recall what the hundredth birthday of her father and pastor was on the Danish throne. Frederick IX of Denmark ruled from 1947 to 1974. The silver commemorative medal was awarded to 21 members of the Royal Family and 110 members of the court. The carriers may place the letters M.M.11.marts 1899-1999 after their name.

On the front of the medal the deceased king is depicted in large uniform. The lettering is "FREDERICK IX KONGEN AF DANMARK".

Gentlemen wear the medal on a red ribbon folded into a pentagon with a woven white cross on the left chest.

Awards on the occasion of the hundredth birthday of a Danish king have been struck and awarded in Denmark since 1918. Up to now this happened four times.
