Jack Cover

John Higson (Jack) Cover Jr. (New York City, April 6, 1920 - Chicago, February 7, 2009) was an American physicist. He was the inventor of the power gun.

Cover obtained a bachelor's degree and a doctorate in science at the University of Chicago. During World War II he was a test pilot at the American Air Force. Later, from 1952 to 1964 he worked as a scientist at North American Aviation, a major aircraft manufacturer. He also worked with IBM and Hughes Aircraft.

In 1970, he founded Taser Systems Inc., with which he developed the power gun. Because the gunpowder used to shoot the arrows, the US federal government was of the opinion that it was a firearm, which made the sale for military and police purposes difficult.

Jack Cover received Alzheimer's disease and died at the age of 88 at the effect of pneumonia.
