Oxadiazool

An oxadiazole is a heterocyclic aromatic compound, which consists of a five-ring, two-carbon, two nitrogen and one oxygen atom. There are four isomers that differ from the positions of nitrogen atoms: The four possible oxadiazoles. 1,2,5-oxadiazole is also called furazan.

Various oxadiazole derivatives are used as a drug (for example furazabol), pesticide (oxadiazon), dye, liquid crystal or scintillator.

Polyoxadiazoles are polymers or copolymers with oxadiazole rings in the backbone. They are prepared by heating a polyhydrazide causing a dehydration reaction with ring formation or by the polycondensation of hydrazine sulfate with a dicarboxylic acid, e.g. terephthalic acid, in fuming sulfuric acid (oleum) or other suitable solvent. With aromatic dicarboxylic acids, there are obtained polymers with good mechanical and thermal properties that can be processed into fibers, membranes or coatings. Arselon is a commercial fiber, manufactured in Belarus, which can withstand temperatures up to 250 ° C and is suitable for fireproof clothing.
