Bardu Ali


Bardu Ali (New Orleans, September 23, 1906 - October 29, 1981) was an American jazz and rhythm & amp; blues singer and guitarist.

Ali worked in the bands of Napoleon Zyas and Leroy Tibbs and twice in the orchestra of Chick Webb (1932-1935). He would convince Webb to assume Ella Fitzgerald. He also had the lead of Webbs orchestra after his death. Ali also led his own band several times and turned to Lew Leslies hit-show Blackbirds of 1928 in 1934. In the second half of the 1940's, he became a business partner of Johnny Otis: he played in his band and opened a club with Otis, the famous Barrelhouse Club.
