Vratislav I


Vratislav I (± 888 - 13 February 921), from the House of Přemysliden, was the duke of Bohemia.

Vratislav's older brother Spytihněv I followed their father Bořivoj I as a duke of Bohemia. In 895 Spytihněv and Vratislav hosted the reign of Regensburg in King Arnulf of Carinthia. In 900 Vratislav joined the Bavarian army against Moravia. He followed his brother in 915 as a duke and strengthened his position through cooperation with the Hungarians. Vratislav founded the Saint Joris Basilica in Prague. He died in a battle against the Hungarians and was buried in St. Joris Basilica.

Vratislav was a younger son of Duke Bořivoj I and Saint Ludmilla. He was married to Drahomíra from the genus Stodoran, a Slavic princess of the Havelii tribe of eastern Germany. As a result, Vratislav supported the Slaves against the Saxony. After his death, Drahomira was raining. Vratislav and Drahomira received the following children:
