Nayef bin Abdoel Aziz al-Saoed
Nayef bin Abdoel Aziz al-Saud (Arabic: نايف بن عبد العزيز آل سعود) (Taif, 1934 - Geneva, June 16, 2012) was the crown prince of Saudi Arabia until his death. For a long time, he had been Minister of the Interior from 1975 to 2012. He was one of the five remaining brothers of the so-called Sudairi Seven, the seven sons of King Abdul Aziz Al Saud at Hassa Bint Ahmad Sudairi.
Nayef was born in Taif in 1933. In 1953 he became governor of Riyadh. Between 1954 and 1970 he served as Deputy Minister of the Interior. In 1970 he was appointed minister by former King Faisal, a post he was wearing until his death. Since 1975, he had the home affairs portfolio, in addition he had been the second deputy prime minister since 2009 and has been crown prince since 2011.
He was married three times and left ten children. A son of his is a minister in Saudi Arabia, another son is an ambassador in Spain. Follow-up
After the death of his half brother Sultan, he was appointed Crown Prince in 2011 by King Abdoellah. Because of his half-brother's illness, Nayef was seen as the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia.
In Saudi Arabia, the succession of brother goes to brother and then only to the next generation. This was introduced by King Abdoel Aziz al-Saud in 1919 after the death of his eldest son Turki I bin Abdoel-Aziz Al-Saed.
The former king Abdoellah bin Abdoel Aziz al-Saud is the fifth son of Abdoel Aziz al-Saud, who holds the highest office in this way. Nayef was succeeded as crown prince by Salman bin Abdoel Aziz al-Saud.
His son Mohammed ben Nayef was crown prince from April 29, 2015 until June 20, 2017.
