Charlotte Amalia of Denmark

Charlotte Amalia of Denmark (October 6, 1706 - October 28, 1782) was a Danish princess, daughter of King Frederik IV of Denmark and Louise van Mecklenburg.

Charlotte Amalia never married and spent her entire life in Denmark. She led an active court life. Unlike her brother and sister in law, she had a good relationship with her stepmother, Anne Sophie Reventlow, with whom she was very close. She tried to avoid falling into nausea after Anne Sophie became queen (1721). On April 8, 1771, she had to leave the Court. She spent the rest of her life with the queen widow Juliana Maria, which meant that she spent much of her time in the Queen's Court's court.

Charlotte Amalia had a p for black wigs, even her own staff had to wear them, known as the "Court of the Black Wigs". In 1778, it was reported that Charlotte Amalia retired from public life and became senile.

The palace Charlottenlund, where she spent her summers, was named after her, like the city of Charlottenlund.

She is known as the benefactor of the writer Charlotte Baden (1740-1824), she received education and a financial allowance. She founded a foundation for poor girls from all classes.
