Laxative


A laxative is a medicine used in constipation, the drug promotes the defecation mainly when it is caused by overly dried feces. Products to which a (light) laxative effect is attributed include: plums, breakfast cakes, coffee, different teas and spices such as fennel, with the remark that sufficient moisture must be taken at all times to allow for any laxative action to effect. The intake of large doses of vitamin C, or chewing gum with sorbitol has a laxative effect. Laxatives are often abused by people suffering from bulimia or anorexia nervosa. An excessive dose of laxative may cause slight diarrhea to cause severe (unbearable) water diarrhea and dehydration.
