Wolf III Centullus of Gascogne

Wolf III Centullus (died 819) was a son of Centullus, himself a son of Wolf II Centullus of Gascogne. In 816, Sancho I Wolf, Duke of Gascony, and his brother Garcia Wolf, Count of Dax, were killed in a battle against the Moors. Louis de Vrome confessed in 817 the kingdom of Aquitaine to his son Pepijn I. This was assisted by his relatives Gerard van Auvergne and Bernhard of Septimania, but acted so inconveniently that he received the local gentlemen. In 819 Wolf Centullus and Garcia Centullus rebelled, but they were defeated: Garcia was killed and Wolf was banned. He sought his resort in Spain to Alfons II of Asturias who entrusted him with a government in Castile. After the deposition of Wolf Centullus, Gascony returned to the (West) Franconian empire. The board of Gascogne was entrusted to divisive dukes.
