Clitomachus

Clitomachus (Ancient Greek: Κλειτόμαχος / Kleitómachos; 187 / 186-110 / 109 BC) from Carthago, named Hasdrubal, was a philosopher and academic skeptic.

He was in Athens a pupil of Carneades, the founder of the new Akademeia. When Carthage in 146 BC. was taken, he wrote a piece of work - which Cicero said to have read - in which he sought to offer his fellow citizens the comfort of philosophy. He became 127/126 BC. service successor (scholarch). He certainly would still reach 111 BC. continue teaching at the Akademeia, because Crassus would have attended one of his classes. Of his numerous writings - more than 400 writings - almost nothing has been preserved. However, Cicero has used them, among others in his work De Divinatione. grades
