Otranto Canal

The Otranto Canal or Otranto Street (Italian: Canale d'Otranto; Albanian: Ngushtica and Otrantos) is a strait in the Mediterranean, which connects the Adriatic to the north and the Ionian Sea in South. The strait is about 75 km wide.

On the west coast is the Salentine Peninsula, which belongs to the Italian region of Apulia. Across the road is the Albanian peninsula Karaburun, which is part of the city of Orikum. The strait is named after the city of Otranto on the Italian side.

In the Otranto Canal, battle was delivered in both world wars. In March 1997, a ship crossed the Italian coast, with eighty-one Albanian refugees drowned. 40° 13′ NB, 18° 56′ OL
