The date of the first Mount Erice dates back to September 5, 1954. The route of the time was 16550 meters long. The first edition was won by Pasquale Tacci, at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo.
Over the years, the route has been modified many times: in the 1954-1555 year the route was 16550 meters; in the 1956-57 biennial the route was 13920 meters; From 1958 to 1962 the route was reduced to 7000 meters; from 1963 to 1984 (except 1981 with a length of 5750 meters) the route was 6670 meters; was shortened for two more times, in 1985 with a length of 5890 meters and in the 1986-1997 two-year period with a length of 5790 meters. Since 1988 the formula of the two manches was introduced. The 11780 meters (5890 meters) to be repeated twice does not change until 2009. For a few years, the length of the route is 11460 meters (5730 meters to repeat twice).
Over the years it has been valid for the European Mountain Championship, the FIA Challenge, the European Cup, the Italian Mountain Speed Championship, the FIA International Challenge Championship. Monte Erice for various organizational reasons was not held in 1961, 1976, 1977 and 1980.
