Jan Ficq

Jean Jacques Maria (Jan) Ficq (Grave, May 1, 1923 - Gulpen, December 26, 2005) was a Dutch mayor.

He was born as a son of Louis Ficq who was Mayor of Grave from 1919 until the beginning of 1944 by the SD because of his open-minded anti-German attitude, and died a year later in the Dachau concentration camp.

J.J.M. Ficq became a secretary at the municipality of Grave in 1944. In 1949 he made the transfer to the secretariat of the municipality of Beers, where he brought it to the first official. Ficq then worked for the municipality of Goirle from 1954 until 1959, after which he became a mayor of the then Zeeland municipality of IJzendijke. In addition, from July 1967 he was acting mayor of Schoondijke. In 1968 he became mayor of the South Limburg municipality of Wittem. At the end of 1971, Ficq was suddenly admitted to hospital and because of his illness, Fons Teheux was appointed as acting mayor of Wittem in 1972. Later that year, Ficq took leave as mayor.

He was involved in the restoration of the Upper Molen water mills at the Limburg village of Mechelen and Volmolen in Epen. Ficq died at the age of 82 at the end of 2005. Trivia
