Marcel Buelens

Marcel Buelens (Leuven, March 6, 1954) was, until June 2009, Managing Director of Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA). He had been in office since 2006 in succession of Laurent Jossart.

Buelens studied economics at the VUB and went on to work - almost his entire career - in the aviation sector. As a student he started working with Belgavia and, in turn, worked at Federal Express, Air Hong Kong, as sales director at DHL and as General Director in Logistics at Dachser. Charleroi

Under his rule, passenger numbers in Charleroi grew to 3 million, of which 80% are transported by Ryanair. The destinations themselves rose from 17 to 59.

He was fired because of the disagreement with his board of directors about the shareholding of the airport. This board would like a share of the shares to come from the consortium Save and Municipal Holding.

At the end of 2008, Marcel Buelens in the aviation sector was still voted "Man of the Year".

Marcel Buelens, along with Edmée De Groeve and BrainWin, is accused of bidding during his activities as CEO of BSCA. The case will appear in the 12th Chamber of the Correctional Court in Charleroi on 18 May 2017. Externe link
