Mark van der Horst


Mark van der Horst (Amsterdam, 11 December 1967) is a Dutch politician of the VVD.

In 1990 he became a councilor of the former Amsterdam district of De Baarsjes. Later he became a district citizen in his portfolio of finance, education and civil affairs. After being a councilor for some time, Van der Horst worked as an organization consultant at Bakkenist Management Consultants (later Deloitte and Touche). In 1998 he became a member of the daily administration of the Zuidoost district and from 2002 to 2006 he was Amsterdam's deputy governor, the last two years of which he was also the Mayor of Amsterdam. As an alderman, he was responsible for Traffic, Transport & amp; Infrastructure (including the North / South Line construction) and the Amsterdam port.

In July 2006, Van der Horst acting Mayor of Heemskerk became a temporary successor of Bernt Schneiders who became Mayor of Haarlem. About half a year later, his party mate Jaap Nawijn was appointed mayor.

After that, he became a partner of the BMC Group and since October 2007 he is the president of SME Amsterdam.
